WaPo: “Cheri Beasley is hoping her penchant for making history continues as she seeks to become North Carolina’s Democratic nominee for the Senate.
“North Carolinians know that there is so much at stake in this election,” she told the Daily Tar Heel in January. “From lowering costs, to protecting our fundamental rights, reforming student debt and addressing climate change.”
Beasley, 56, gained wider attention in her adopted state in 2019 when Gov. Roy Cooper (D) appointed her chief justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court, making her the first Black woman to fill that seat. Voters did not back her bid for a full term in 2020, but she is hoping that the state’s Democratic voters will support her effort to represent their interests in Washington.”
