Alabama Political Reporter: “A newly released state audit of the Alabama Department of Corrections documents repeated failures. Auditors found only two evaluations of the Community Corrections Program during the entire audit period — neither met the statutory annual requirement. This was a repeat finding from prior audits, meaning the issue was already flagged and not corrected.
The department also failed to submit a required report on fiscal year 2023 inmate health care expenditures. At multiple facilities, bank reconciliations were not performed on time. At seven facilities, auditors reported missing or incomplete documentation.
Legislators have expressed growing frustration with ongoing prison problems as billions have been committed to construction and operational costs.”
