Kentucky Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman announced her candidacy for governor of Kentucky on Monday at the Kentucky History Center in Frankfort. Coleman, 43, a former teacher, assistant principal, and basketball coach, is making public education a cornerstone of her campaign.
Coleman, who has run and won alongside Gov. Andy Beshear twice, announced she will run to replace Beshear when his term ends in December 2027. Since Beshear is term-limited, the race to become Kentucky’s next governor is sure to be a heated one.
Kentucky is a deep-red state that hasn’t elected a Democratic governor other than Beshear in decades. Former Lt. Gov. Crit Luallen introduced Coleman before the announcement.
