WaPo: “Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) on Sunday vetoed a bill that would have banned intoxicating products made from hemp,a legal cannabis plant that has fueled a billion-dollar industry in the state but raised concerns about the safety of the largely unregulated gummies, drinks, vapes and joints found in smoke shops and gas stations.
The legislation would have enacted one of the harshest prohibitions in the nation on hempproducts, underscoring the patchwork nature of state and federal regulation of cannabis. Marijuana and hemp are both varieties of the cannabis plant.
The veto was cheered by Democrats, some conservatives normally aligned with Abbott, and veterans and others who use the hemp products for chronic pain as an alternative to opioids.”
