Wiley Nickel for NC (US Senate): “Yesterday, Donald Trump visited Fort Bragg here in North Carolina with his Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth. He shook some hands, gave a speech, and generally tried to look like a champion for our service members. But let’s be honest: his actions tell a very different story than his words.
What should have been a nonpartisan celebration of the Army’s 250th birthday turned into a hyperpartisan campaign stop. Trump used the moment to attack Democrats, call our local press “Fake News”, and push a divisive agenda. And, as usual, Senator Thom Tillis stood by silently and applauded.
At the same time, we need to remember what the Trump administration is actually planning to do to the very people he claims to support. The truth is, his administration is pushing a plan to slash over 80,000 jobs from the Department of Veterans Affairs.”
