Alternet: “John Morales, a veteran meteorologist for Miami’s NBC affiliate WTVJ-TV Channel 6 News, has been on South Florida’s weather since the early 1990s. And he has covered a lot of hurricanes.
But during a Monday, June 2 broadcast, Morales candidly told viewers that because of the Trump Administration’s cuts to the National Weather Service, he may not be able to continue offering the type of up-to-date reporting he has been providing all these years.
Recalling his coverage of Hurricane Dorian’s trajectory, Morales explained, “I’m here to tell you I’m not sure I can do that this year. Because of the cuts — the gutting, the sledgehammer attack on science, in general, and I could talk about that for a long, long time and how that’s affecting the leadership and science over the years and how we’re losing that leadership, and that is a multi-generation impact on science in this country.””
