WaPo: ” The Virginia Senate passed three resolutions Tuesday to enshrine abortion rights, same-sex marriage and the automatic restoration of felon voting rights in the Virginia Constitution, the latest action in a years-long amendment slog.
The Senate votes followed an emotional floor debate on abortion — and an unusual parliamentary tussle over whether the Democratic leader had violated the chamber’s decorum by saying, while discussing the fall of Roe v. Wade, that U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) “stole a Supreme Court pick.”
Democrats relied on their slim 21-19 majority in the Senate to prevail on the abortion and voting rights measures, which passed on strict party-line votes. But three Republicans — Sens. David R. Suetterlein (Roanoke), J.D. “Danny” Diggs (York) and Tara Durant (Stafford) — joined Democrats on the same-sex marriage resolution.”
