WaPo: “A federal judge declared a mistrial Thursday when a jury could not reach a verdict in the case of a former Louisville police detective charged with violating the civil rights of Breonna Taylor and others in a March 2020 raid that resulted in Taylor’s fatal shooting by police.
Jurors informed U.S. District Judge Rebecca Grady Jennings that they were deadlocked over the fate of the former officer, Brett Hankison, after more than three days of deliberations, following a two-week trial.
The outcome was a major blow for family and local civil rights leaders who pushed for greater accountability after the fatal police shooting of Taylor, who was Black, helped spark nationwide social justice protests. The hung jury means that no officer has been convicted on state or federal charges for their actions on the night she was killed.”
