The Post and Courier: “Before this week, South Carolina Democrats didn’t have much to celebrate.
They had failed, once again, to win any statewide race in November. They had also lost five state House seats represented by Black Democrats. And they didn’t even come close to winning back a competitive congressional seat on the coast.
But then, the unexpected happened to a state that hasn’t elected a Democrat to the White House since Jimmy Carter in 1976.
Members of the Democratic National Committee, at President Joe Biden’s personal request, voted Dec. 2 to elevate South Carolina to an even greater position of national political power. Not only could it keep its coveted “first in the South” primary, but what if South Carolina was also the first state in the nation to have a say in who Democrats want in the White House in 2024?
Already, South Carolina Democrats are dreaming about the opportunity.”
