AR Times: “Once more: The Arkansas Republican Party is intent on branding the nonpartisan Arkansas Supreme Court as a partisan tribunal and now even boasts of it.
The latest example: Ads run during the Razorback football game last night branded Supreme Court candidate Chris Carnahan as a Republican, endorsed by the party, and incumbent Justice Robin Wynne as a liberal Democrat. (He ran for the legislature as a Democrat several decades ago.)
Despite judicial ethics rules that say judges, which Carnahan is, and judicial candidates, which Carnahan is, should avoid partisan trappings, Carnahan has boasted of his Republican endorsement. He’s run primarily by attending Republican meetings. He’s a former Republican Party director, after all.
Wynne has declined to engage the issue. He says he’s going to maintain a non-partisan posture as the ethics code requires.”
