Abbott: Texas can \u2018eliminate\u2019 10 Democratic districts in response to California<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Texas Gov.\u00a0Greg Abbott\u00a0<\/a>(R) warned that Texas could get rid of as many as 10 Democratic districts if California moves ahead with its plan to redraw its House map and neutralize\u00a0the expected GOP gains<\/a>\u00a0in the Lone Star State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cListen, all those big blue states, they\u2019ve already gerrymandered,\u201d Abbott told CNN\u2019s\u00a0Jake Tapper\u00a0<\/a>on Monday, when asked if he was concerned about a redistricting arms race as Texas moves forward to create new congressional lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLook at the map of Illinois. Look at the map of California, New York and Massachusetts, and so many other blue states they gerrymandered a long time ago. They got nothing left with regard to what they can do,\u201d Abbott said. \u201cAnd know this: If California tries to gerrymander, find more districts, listen, Texas has the ability to eliminate 10 Democrats in our state.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abbott\u2019s remarks underscore how Republicans plan to be as aggressive as possible in trying to knock off as many Democratic seats as they can. Right now, the state has 25 House Republicans and 12 Democrats, in addition to one vacancy waiting to be filled after the late Rep.\u00a0Sylvester Turner\u00a0<\/a>(D-Texas) died in March.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John Cornyn Asks FBI To Help Track Down, Arrest Texas Democrats
<\/a>“<\/a>Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) ramped up his party\u2019s fight with Texas Democrats<\/a> on Tuesday by asking the FBI<\/a> to help Gov. Greg Abbott (R) track down and arrest lawmakers who left the state to block a controversial redistricting vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a\u00a0letter<\/a>\u00a0to FBI Director Kash Patel, Cornyn asked if the bureau could help find or arrest the Democrats serving in the state\u2019s House who denied\u00a0Republicans<\/a>\u00a0a quorum on Monday by\u00a0leaving Texas<\/a>\u00a0and called them \u201cpotential lawbreakers.\u201d”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
