But senators tasked with confirming the president-elect&#8217;s pick have made bipartisan calls to see the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Axios reported Friday that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/11\/15\/johnson-gaetz-ethics-report-secret\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Johnson said<\/a>\u00a0he&#8217;d ask the committee not to release their findings, saying it would set a &#8220;terrible precedent.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">But Johnson told CNN&#8217;s Jake Tapper Sunday that the House speaker &#8220;is not involved in ethics committee work &#8230; because the speaker can&#8217;t put a thumb on the scale or have anything to do with that.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Driving the news:&nbsp;<\/strong>Johnson, appearing on CNN&#8217;s &#8220;State of the Union,&#8221; reiterated that releasing the report would be &#8220;a Pandora&#8217;s Box,&#8221; arguing there is a &#8220;very important protocol and tradition&#8221; that the committee&#8217;s jurisdiction does not extend to &#8220;non-members.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But he added, &#8220;the speaker does not have the authority to stop the release of a report by the ethics committee.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But Tapper noted the House Ethics Committee has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/11\/15\/ethics-panel-gaetz-report-00189863\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">released<\/a>\u00a0reports on lawmakers after their resignation in the past, pointing to former reps.
