Should it stand, it would mark a dramatic rollback of the enforcement of the law that led to increased minority power and representation in American politics&#8230;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">While the Department of Justice can \u2014 and under President Joe Biden, increasingly has \u2014 brought Section 2 challenges, private groups have been the main drivers of these lawsuits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\u201cIt\u2019s hard to overstate how important and detrimental this decision would be if allowed to stand,\u201d Rick Hasen, a prominent election law expert at UCLA Law School,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/electionlawblog.org\/?p=139769\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote on Monday<\/a>. \u201cIf minority voters are going to continue to elect representatives of their choice, they are going to need private attorneys to bring those suits.\u201d&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The immediate next step following Monday\u2019s ruling was not immediately clear. Legal experts expect the case to end up in front of the Supreme Court.
