Ron DeSantis and other Florida officials Tuesday after the firebrand Republican\u2019s move to transport migrants to a Democrat-controlled state sparked national controversy and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2022\/09\/19\/bexar-county-florida-marthas-vineyard-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a criminal investigation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lawsuit alleges the migrants were tricked into traveling on the airplane with false promises of money, work, housing and food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DeSantis and other officials \u201cdesigned and executed a premeditated, fraudulent, and illegal scheme centered on exploiting this vulnerability for the sole purpose of advancing their own personal, financial and political interests,\u201d the suit claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DeSantis sent the planes to Martha\u2019s Vineyard last week, mimicking Texas Gov.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/people\/greg-abbott\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Greg Abbott<\/a>\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2022\/09\/17\/greg-abbott-migrant-busing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">monthslong practice of busing migrants<\/a>&nbsp;to Democrat-led cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suit alleges an elaborate scheme of unidentified individuals who lured migrants to travel on the planes. This included providing hotel rooms, McDonald\u2019s gift cards, hundreds of dollars in cash and false promises of their ultimate destination. Migrants on the flight last week said a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2022\/09\/16\/metro\/immigration-lawyers-advocates-explore-possible-criminal-violations\/?p1=Article_Inline_Text_Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">woman going by the name of Perla<\/a>\u00a0approached them outside San Antonio\u2019s Migrant Resource Center and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2022\/09\/16\/migrants-texas-massachusetts-ron-desantis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">promised them jobs and shelter<\/a>. Some said they were told they were going to Boston.
